Imminent Closure of Services at Mind in Manchester

Due to a lack of renewed funding, vital services at Mind in Manchester Ltd are set to close. We need your help to stop this from happening.

For 28 years Mind in Manchester has been a vital part of the community and a lifeline for people experiencing mental ill health in Manchester. Over the years we have helped countless hundreds, even thousands, of people with drop-ins, information services, listening and counselling services. In recent years we’ve developed recovery-focused mentoring and socially inclusive services that have been so successful that they are currently over subscribed and we have waiting lists over a year long.

More than 75% of all the people that we work are sent to us by statutory health and social care bodies. Many of them have some of the most complex and longstanding difficulties in a population that is recognised as having high levels of deprivation and poor mental health (including suicide).

However, despite the work that we do clearly being very effective, valued and in great demand, local statutory funders have not yet committed funds for services to remain open.

Over the last three years alone we have supported more than 450 people and will in the course of the next four months have to withdraw support from around 120 people currently engaging with one to one services at Mind.

Without significant support from the statutory authorities Mind in Manchester's mentoring and social inclusion services will close before the end of May 2007.
